Writing the Story of Teacher Success

Enabling storytelling for future expansion
EdLight

Overview

Educators across the globe face a common, yet important, challenge: managing the grading of what can feel like a seemingly endless collection of student work. Providing students timely, meaningful feedback on their work is a critical part of their learning, but when faced with stacks of paper, it can feel like a daunting task for teachers. EdLight, an edtech company with a mission to eliminate bias from grading and make teachers’ lives easier, is attempting to solve this challenge. Their product simplifies grading by automatically processing student work – whether handwritten or digital – and providing AI-enabled feedback for students and insights for teachers. The tool also holds promise as an important safeguard that prevents similar student work from being graded differently.

In the last few years, Valley View School District (VVSD) and Catalyst Public Schools (Catalyst) both adopted the EdLight product. As the past school term came to a close, EdLight needed to understand the success of their product in the field and have insights to translate into authentic marketing materials. That's where iF came in.

What We Did

Our team of education strategists conducted numerous interviews with administrators and teachers at both school districts to further understand the implementation’s successes and challenges. The interview questions were thoughtfully crafted to prevent participants from feeling they needed to respond with the “right” answer. Honesty and equity were key components in both the research process and the portrayal of EdLight.

After finishing our interviews and reviewing EdLight-collected data, we composed two case studies that showcased the full effect of an EdLight implementation at VVSD and Catalyst. The case studies were centered around user research with the real educators who engaged with the platform.

Additionally, after reviewing data made available by the EdLight team, we compiled a living list of recommendations for future data collection, providing opportunities and examples of both qualitative and quantitative insights. Our team also provided branded templates to make writing future case studies and documenting data in the future easier.

Impact

With two case studies, templates, and robust data collection recommendations, EdLight is well-prepared to highlight and promote the true success of their product in the field. Our partnership provided EdLight with a strong foundation of materials that showcase the positive impact of their product for administrators, teachers, and students, enabling them to continue expanding their reach.
